The Heritage Cafe & Bistro in the Fort is a must do for travellers in the South of Sri Lanka.  The Heritage Cafe & Bistro was recently listed in  Conde Nast Traveller  Magazine “How to visit Sri Lanka in 3 days”.

Two Vibes

The Heritage Cafe & Bistro features a diverse International menu from Asia, to the Middle East, to Europe, to Australia and beyond. Think: artisan pizza made from scratch, pasta made daily, hand-crafted cakes, pastries and bread made fresh daily in our bakery. And of course and abundance of Sri Lanka’s freshest seafood and vegetables.

The prestigious 'certificate of award - as a tourist friendly eating place' was presented to The Heritage Cafe & Bistro by the Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority.  The Heritage delivers freshness and high quality in an eclectic and vibrant atmosphere. 

The Bistro side is themed on precious antiques and features the oldest oven in Southern Sri Lanka.  Located on one of the busiest corners of Galle Fort, with its whimsical style and sumptuous menu, The Heritage Cafe & Bistro has something for everyone.

From the world's first ever Elephant Tuk Tuk art vehicle (made from hand-hammered solid brass by art assembler Prageeth Manohansa), to a fully restored 1953 BSA motorbike, to 'Percy' the peahen made from recycled motorbike parts, 'Sudan' the friendly doorman come gangsta Rhino and an array of other on-of-a-kind art pieces.

Be sure to savour Heritage’s famed organically farmed local coffee, signature oven-fresh bakery items or the ocean-fresh Barramundi and other jewels-from-the-sea.

What's All The Fuss About?

The food concept at Heritage is to create food from scratch with heart. We firmly believe in fresh. From artisan breads, to stunning pizzas, freshly baked desserts, home-made sauces (do try our famed chilli oil), every element is curated with love and passion.

“Probably the best breakfast we’ve had while in Sri Lanka. Smashed avo with pumpkin seeds on homemade brown seed loaf bread with a nice cold Ceylon iced tea infused with mint and lime.”

The Heritage Cafe & Bistro

The Heritage Cafe & Bistro is steeped in rich history. Located on the former site of the famed 'National Bakery'. The National Bakery was an institution for generations and featured the first wood-fired brick oven in Southern Sri Lanka. The oven has been carefully preserved and still stands at the Heritage. It dates backs almost 300 years.
